About this resourceIntroduction to the guidance
The
aim of this guidance is to support all providers within the FE system when reviewing and developing their pastoral provision.
It has been created using the evidence and information collected from providers from across the learning and skills sector who contributed to the QIA
Pastoral Support Pilots Project.
This on-line guidance provides you, the user, with examples of promising practice, policies, strategies and materials developed by providers who contributed to the project; and information about a range of national policy initiatives, with web links where available, which have relevance for the provision of support to your learners.
This guidance also provides snapshots of models of support provided by a range of providers who contributed to the action research element of the
Pastoral Support Pilots Project.
Additionally, the resource offers a checklist which has been developed from the
'Success Factors' which have been identified through the evidence collected in the pastoral provision pilot. Where appropriate, one or more examples of promising practice identified through the pastoral provision project illustrate each of the success factors.
The success factors are grouped in to a number of themes, two of which address
'Whole organisation issues' and some of which have been categorized under different stages of the
'Learner journey'.
This guidance has been created to offer some suggestions about reviewing and developing your existing provision. It is not, however, meant to be exhaustive, and aims to complement your existing practice.
