How to use this guidance
This guidance will be of interest to staff with responsibility for managing and developing pastoral provision within an organisation. It includes:
- A definition of pastoral provision which can be used to shape the support provided for learners.
- Snapshots of the models of support provided by the providers who contributed to the action research element of the Pastoral Support Pilots Project.
- Success Factors which contribute to the provision of effective pastoral provision, identified from the providers contributing to the pilot.
The success factors are grouped in to a number of themes, two of which address 'Whole organisation issues' and others which have been categorized under different stages of the 'Learner journey'.
Where appropriate, one or more examples of promising practice identified through the pastoral provision project illustrate each of the success factors.
- A checklist of the 'Success Factors' which providers can use to review their provision and inform their development planning.
- Information about a range of national policy initiatives, with web links where available, which have relevance for the provision of support to your learners.
- Materials developed by the providers who contributed to the project.
