Overview
Why plan?
Planning is an important skill that will help learners achieve success at work and in their home life. Employers often list the ability to plan as a key skill that they would like to see in their workforce. Close collaboration between teachers and learners can lead to the co-construction of assessment criteria and session planning, thus increasing learners' commitment to their own learning.
Learners are often asked to complete projects for external assessment. In the research carried out during the development of these resources, teachers listed planning as one of the skills that learners needed to develop and one that they often found difficult.
For teachers meanwhile, planning is an essential part of successful course delivery. Delivering a successful course unit often involves collaboration with colleagues who deliver different elements of the course or support key skills development for example. Sometimes, learning programmes may be delivered by more than one provider working in partnership arrangements - add to this the challenge of ensuring that deadlines are spread evenly to help learners manage their workload and the need for communication and a shared understanding of responsibilities and requirements becomes paramount.
