Agreeing ground rules

Agreeing ground rules

It is vitally important that co-operative learning teams establish ground rules for working together. This activity suggests four methods learners can use to agree ground rules. The learning objectives are the same, whatever method is used.

Do not worry if learners miss out ground rules that you think are important. Ground rules are re-visited at regular intervals during co-operative learning and revised or added to in the light of experience.

Learning objectives

Learners should be able to:

  • establish an agreed set of ground rules for the team
  • explore the value of having ground rules.
