Talking teaching, training and learning

Talking teaching, training and learning

Talking teaching, training and learning is a card activity. It aims to stimulate discussion about the 10 approaches to teaching and learning that have been shown to make a significant impact on learning. The aim is to encourage development of a shared vocabulary about pedagogic vocabulary as part of a professional community of practice.

Use the Talking teaching, training and learning cards to stimulate discussion about effective approaches to teaching and learning and to develop a shared pedagogic vocabulary.

Information on the cards is far from comprehensive and sometimes touches on contested issues. This is intentional. It leaves space for you to interpret and debate the information, to bring your own perspectives and to relate the cards to your own teaching context and to the learners that you work with.

Using the cards

We suggest a number of ways to use the cards but there is no 'right way.' Feel free to invent your own uses and to add or remove cards as the situation requires.

Middle and senior managers might use the cards during preparation of a teaching and learning policy or to consider how to embed pedagogies into organisational quality improvement processes.

You can download and print the cards and the guidance leaflet to use with colleagues or learners. The cards are also produced as a separate resource, Talking teaching, training and learning: a resource for continuing professional development.
