If you wish to learn more about effective approaches to teaching and learning, this area is for you. The term 'active learning' has been refined to embrace 10 key pedagogy approaches that we know can make a positive impact on the learners' experience.

These 10 approaches, underpinned by evidence from research and from teachers' and learners' experiences, have been shown to be particularly effective in supporting learning, helping learners to move from surface learning to deep and profound understanding. The 10 pedagogy approaches are generic and can be applied to any curriculum area or subject.

Five pedagogy toolkits, including the SuccessPlanner tool, provide further in-depth rationale, guidance and support on particular aspects of the pedagogy that have been used extensively within the subject and vocational area resources. These resources have been developed in response to teacher requests for resources that will help with planning in a variety of learning contexts.

Ideas and approaches in Effective teaching and learning have been developed in discussion with the Centres for Excellence in Teacher Training (CETTs).
