E-learning

What is the e-learning programme?

The programme aims to drive improvement in teaching and learning by increasing the effective use of e-learning in all areas of learning, by developing the skills and knowledge of e-learning to support colleagues in their use of technology.

Within the training itself, the objectives are to:

  • explore the role of e-learning
  • develop skills in the use of technology throughout the learner journey
  • consider and plan models of cascade training, coaching and mentoring
  • provide teachers with resources for developing e-learning with their colleagues in their organisations.

How e-learning can help you with your CPD

Participation in the programme may contribute to your 30 hours (or pro rata) CPD requirement provided you:

  • critically reflect on what you have learned
  • evidence how you have applied this to your practice
  • evidence how this has impacted on your learners' experience and success.

Additionally e-learning can support staff in their CPD through cascade activities.

What will QIA be doing to support eLearning?

QIA will shortly be commissioning an integrated workforce development programme for e-learning which will be :

  • develop and mapped to the new teaching standards
  • based on the pedagogical eLearning standards
  • developed within a framework for eLearning CPD to help fulfil the IfL (Institute for Learning) requirement for 30hrs CPD (or pro rata)
  • developed so that practitioners can make best use of the investment in the Subject Learning Coach elearning materials and the Excellence Gateway
  • developed so that practitioners can make best use of the investment in the NLN elearning materials
  • takes into account previous programmes such as the ILT Champions and FPP (FERL Practitioners Programme)
  • underpinned by appropriate IT Skills training delivered through the ITQ framework.

The new programme will be operating from late 2008 with delivery of training expected in early 2009.
