Crossword software: Consolidating learning
Physics teacher, Ian Yems, describes how his learners construct crosswords as a way of revising their knowledge of scientific terminology. Software for creating simple puzzles is available from a number of sources. Ian downloaded ‘Hot Potatoes’ from http://web.uvic.ca/hrd/halfbaked/ to create the crosswords. 'Hot Potatoes' can be used free of charge by educational institutions provided they make all their pages available on a public website.
Consider
How does this technology support learning?
For which topics might your learners benefit from devising crosswords or other simple puzzles?
How could you build on this example with your own learners?
