Providing an activity is not enough, however. We also need to get our learners to think about their experience so they really do learn from it. We need to get them to explain what they are learning to themselves, to each other, and to you. This reflection is the active meaning-making process in action. It enables the learners to form concepts, to improve them, and to create links that make the subject they are studying 'make sense' to them.
In the video Geoff Petty, a well respected advocate of active learning explains the importance of learners making deeper connections through active learning.
