The E-Guides training
programme is a thorough introduction to e-learning
and the skills required to use technology
effectively in teaching and learning in post-16
education.
E-learning is
learning supported or enhanced through
the application of Information and Communications
Technology (ICT).

The E-Guides training
programme continues to make a major contribution
to workforce development in those sectors
where it has been implemented – adult
and community learning, work-based learning,
voluntary and community sector and offender
learning and skills.
E-Guides is delivered on
behalf of the Quality Improvement Agency (QIA)
as part of the National Teaching and Learning
Change Programme (NTLCP).

This explanation of the NTLCP is taken
from web pages from the NTLCP
Subject Learning Coach website.
The Government
established the NTLCP in 2003 as part
of a long-term investment in reforming
the further education system to enhance
economic growth and to increase social
mobility. Working with colleagues in
adult learning, colleges, prisons, schools
with sixth forms, sixth-form colleges
and work-based learning, NTLCP aims to:
- transform the quality
of teaching, training and learning
by embedding excellence in practice
- support
the professional development of the
sector’s workforce.
The NTLCP is funded
and managed by the Quality Improvement
Agency for Lifelong Learning (QIA) and
delivered by LSN. The programme was originally
launched and managed by the DfES Standards
Unit. |
The first two days of the programme introduce
e-learning fundamentals, the application of
e-learning throughout the learner journey and
the experiential and reflective approach required
to ensure the effective implementation of new
skills. Participants are introduced to a range
of e-learning tools and resources.
The third day develops content
creation skills, increases knowledge and covers
models of cascade training, coaching and mentoring.
A series of optional follow on days can then
be selected, making up a course of study consisting
of thirty hours.
- E-Guides learn new teaching
approaches and perspectives to share with
their subject colleagues that will engage
learners more effectively: leading to better
retention, motivation, completion, attainment
and achievement.
- The programme enables
ongoing networking, support from communities
of practice, and access to further training
events.
- Small grants may be available
in support of follow-up activity linked to
programme attendance.
- Support for the application
is required from senior management, which
ensures that the whole organisation benefits
from E-Guides training.
- A certificate and a portfolio
recording learning during the programme provide
evidence of CPD and may be used towards accreditation.
The programme aims to drive
improvement in teaching and learning by increasing
the effective use of e-learning in all areas
of learning, by developing the skills and knowledge
of E-Guides to support colleagues in their
use of technology.
Within the training itself,
the objectives are to:
- explore the role of E-Guides
- develop skills in the use of technology
throughout the learner journey
- consider and plan models of cascade training,
coaching and mentoring
- provide E-Guides with resources for developing
e-learning with their colleagues in their
organisations.
As a result of attending
the training, the participant will be able
to;
- enhance the effective use of e-learning
across their organisation
- identify appropriate applications of e-learning
throughout the learner journey
- produce interactive learning content and
support colleagues to develop interactive
e-resources
- coach and mentor colleagues
in their application of e-learning to their
practice
