Preparing for interview

Haringey Adult Learning Service (HALS) runs English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses. Learners on the ESOL pathfinder course attend a core programme of literacy, numeracy, ESOL and computer skills. Learners attend work tasters and work placements when and if appropriate.

In the sequence, we join the learners as they are preparing for a work-based interview role play.

Watch for...

As you watch the sequence notice how the session is designed to develop the learners' personal and social skills in preparation for work, while improving their language skills.

Think about...

  • which skills the learners consider they had acquired
  • how the learners' comments relate to those of the tutors
  • the opportunities you have for embedding skills within subjects
  • how this observation exercise relates to the Objective or subjective? activity in the Initial assessment module of this resource?
